U.S. Greatest World Threat: BBC Poll One year after the Iraqi occupation, a survey of BBC viewers worldwide found Friday, April 9, that the U.S. poses a far greater threat to the world than terrorism and armed conflicts. Polled about the biggest problems facing todays world, more than half of 1500 viewers of the BBC news and international channel fingered the U.S. Respondents from Europe, Asia, North and South America, the Middle East, Africa and Australia, ranked the power of the U.S. as the biggest worry (52.3%). "We were a little surprised that global superpowers and corruption were ranked top but we will track whether they are gaining from topical interest or are of greater long-term significance," said BBC World's head of research and planning Jeremy Nye. An earlier survey carried out in nine world countries showed that the majority of peoples mistrust of the U.S. foreign policies and suspect the motives behind its so-called war on terror. In October, a poll by the European Commission indicated that 59 percent of Europeans see Israel as the greatest threat to peace in the world. The same view was also upheld by the majority of Americans. A survey by a Jewish group, the Anti-Defamation League, showed that 43 of Americans see Israel as a threat to world peace. Source: |
